David Merrill was born in Omak, Washington, one of six children. By the time he was 8 years old he had lived in 4 different states, with his parents moving to Juneau, Alaska. David Merrill is married and a father of 3, and has lived in Alaska for 43 years. His chosen profession is that of a hotel manager. David holds a Business Management Degree with a minor in Finance. He is currently working with a hotel partnership as the General of the Copper River Princess Lodge, in Copper Center, Alaska.
David started coaching 18 years ago for his oldest son's basketball team. David is finishing the spring season 2016 completing 119 teams he has coached. His passion for kids and the sport of basketball goes to his core. In fall of 2015, David decided to start the process of forming a new basketball club; Valley Thunder. His dream was to create a Youth Competitive Team Sports Program whose goal is to develop and promote the ideals of responsibility, dedication, sportsmanship, and teamwork within a safe and positive environment. David is committed to the individual growth of the Mat Su Valley's youth through the spirit of competition, discipline and fair play. He holds strong that the goals will be accomplished by providing structure through qualified coaches and support from family and parents in all aspects of the sport. David is committed to the completion of the Valley Thunder Basketball program as a nonprofit organization. Over the 2015/2016 seasons, he has helped to develop 10 different teams. Keeping kids involved in sports, athletics, and a positive structure is what his main goal is. |
